Campaigns in parliament
Britain’s campaigning and representative organisations are essential parts of our democracy. They deserve a bespoke presence in Parliament.
Most of us think about politics in terms of political issues rather than political parties. Many of us support organisations that campaign for the changes that we want to see in relation to the issues that matter to us.
More broadly there are various issues, such as the environment and mental health, about which many of us feel strongly but which may not always receive the political attention that they deserve because the major political parties do not focus on them. Again, we rely on campaigning organisations to lead public debate in these areas.
On a similar note, various groups championing patients, tenants, consumers and others also seek to influence the Government over important matters that can sometimes be overlooked in Westminster.
There are also times when councillors and other local representatives are working on a local political issue (such as education or crime) but need to lobby the Government to help in a particular way.
We want those campaigning and representative organisations and individuals to have their say on our behalf. Parliament should be opened up so that these campaigns can make their argument in the heart of Westminster. This site sets out a proposal for a new House of Parliament, a “House of Campaigns” which would give our representative campaigning groups the platform they deserve.
