Improved Parliamentary debate

The House of Campaigns would allow a wider range of people and interest groups to take part in Parliamentary debate.

It would also reflect the fact that, while relatively few people are members of political parties, many people are interested in a small number of political issues. The House of Campaigns would be a logical extension of our representative democracy; many of us feel better represented by the campaigning groups which we support than by the MPs whom we elect.

Better-informed Government

A Government is only as good as the information that it receives.

The House of Campaigns would provide an additional means by which campaigning groups could provide information and suggestions to the Government. This would

allow the Government to have a better idea of what is going on in the country and of the changes which people want to see.

The lobbying scandal has shown that the rich and well-connected can pay for access to Ministers. The rest of us cannot. As well as being unfair, this means that the  Government is relatively poorly-informed regarding certain parts of the country and certain categories of citizens. This relative lack of information can only hinder the  Levelling up agenda.

A House of Campaigns would promote fairer access and make it easier for more people to tell the Government what they want.

Higher quality national debate

Too many people feel that they have to make their point in a tweet or a  protest. Neither of these approaches is conducive to proper discussion.

The House of Campaigns would give people the space to set out a proper argument so that other citizens, not to mention the Government, could see detailed proposal(s) and take a proper view.

It would provide a proper forum for national debate.
